[At another time of loss of faith and great unrest in our world a message from 1943 while our country and others were years into the battle to FREE EUROPE from TOTALITARIAN STATES we are in December 2013 facing the rise of HITLER'S DREAM of that year of a EUROPEAN UNION from SPAIN to the URALS. The writer of the following work had suggested that after the war there should be a EUROPEAN FEDERATION but alongside of ENGLAND and HER SISTER NATION STATES with the COMMONWEALTH as a separate sphere of influence in the World together with the NEW WORLD-the USA and others in the world at large. With the growing realisation that since that time there has been a continuing advance of the  SECULAR as opposed to the SPIRITUAL cement of SOCIETY and its tragic consequences for our country and the rest of MANKIND.]

It is therefore impossible to dismiss the claims of Christianity as irrelevant to the problem of international order, for the demonic powers which have entered the empty house of secular civilisations are not to be exorcised by the economist or the politician: religion is the only power that can meet the forces of destruction on equal terms and save mankind from its spiritual enemies.

The world mission of Christianity is based on its conception of a spiritual society which transcends all states and cultures and is the final gaol of humanity.  Wherever Christianity exists there survives a seed of unity, a principle of spiritual order, which cannot be destroyed by war or the conflict of economic interests or the failure of political organisation.  No doubt it will be said that the Christian Church does not in fact perform this function and that Christians are too few, too weak and too poor in intellectual and spiritual qualities to influence the course of history.  But the same might have been  said of the  Jews in the age of the prophets or of the Christians themselves under the Roman Empire.

" You see your vocation, brethren," wrote St. Paul, " that not many wise men according to the flesh, not many of the powerful, not many of the noble called." It is  of the very nature of Christianity not to depend on human means, not to trust in " the arm of the flesh," not to judge events by human or secular standards. The one thing that it demands is faith, and lack of FAITH is the only thing that can DEFEAT the DIVINE PURPOSE.

[IN THE NICK OF TIME?-A LAST CHANCE APPEAL!] Despotism and the origins of the European Union by Don Briggs Don Briggs finds that Alexis de Tocqueville has much to teach us about freedom Peter Mullen, concerned about our feebleness today [Winter-2008/9], expressed bafflement at how the British people coped with casualty levels suach as the death toll of 2,614 in one night in 1941. It was a mystery to A.L.Rowse. In his  The use of History (Hodder & Stoughton, 1946) Rowse attributed it to the fact that  "Germany was a strong state with a weak people. Britain was a week state with a strong people." As regards the origins of the European Union, which Philip Warren believes days back to the 1920's, they could be earlier. In the wake of the French Revolution of 1789, which shook the world, Edmund Burke said to the French:  " You wish to correct the abuses of your government, but why not return to your old traditions? Why not confine yourself to ma resumption of your ancient liberties? Or, if not possible to recover the obliterated features of your original constitution why not  look towards England." There you would have found the ancient common law of Europe. Burke was chided by a wise Frenchman for failing to understand the true meaning of the revolution.  In his L'ancien regime et la revolution, Alexis de Tocqueville wrote: " Burke did not see that what was taking place before his eyes was a revolution whose aim was precisely to abolish the 'ancient common law of Europe' and that there could be no question of putting the clock back." In a version published by Doubleday Anchor in 1955, written three years before his death in 1859. De Tocqueville lamented that his countrymen had abandoned the original ideal of the Revolution and turned their backs on freedom to " acquiesce in an equality of servitude under the master of all Europe" (sounds familiar). In place of the old regime they had created and accepted an all-powerful government, stronger and more autocratic than the one they had destroyed, and which " suppressed our dearly-bought liberties and replaced them by a mere pretence of freedom.  France's tamed Assemblies were there now only to give meaningless assent in servility and silence." (familiar?) "Thus was the nation deprived both of means of self-government and of the chief guarantee of its rights, that is the freedom of speech, thought and literature which ranked among the most valuable achievements of the revolution." Despotic government had made France the sick man of Europe, wrote de Tocqueville because it had virtually extinguished all those virtues which were so vital to a nation: a spirit of healthy independence, high ambitions, faith in oneself and in a cause, he said. (familiar?) De Tocqueville stated three facts with certainty about the future. 1. All his contemporaries were driven by a force which might have checked or curbed but which they could not stop; the headlong destruction of the aristocracy. "Freedom alone is capable of lifting men's minds above mammon worship." 2.  Those peoples whose constitutions make it most difficult to get rid of despotic government for any considerable period, were those where aristocracy had ceased to exist. 3. Nowhere was despotism calculated to produce such evil effects as in social groups as these where ties of family, of caste, of class and craft fraternities no longer exist, people became self-seekers, think only of their own interests, narrow individualists caring nothing for the public good.  despotism encourages these vices, and money becomes the sole criteria of a social status, changing hands incessantly, raising and lowering the status of individuals and families.  Feelings for others' welfare cools; despotic government freezes them. " love of gain, a fondness for business careers, the desire to get rich al all costs, a craving for material comfort and easy living become ruling passions under a despotic government... and tend to lower the moral standards...(familiar?) " Lowering as they do the national morale, they are despotism's safeguard since they divert men's attention from public affairs and make them shudder at the mere thought of a revolution. " Despotism alone can provide that atmosphere of secrecy which favours crooked dealings and enables the freebooters of finance to make illicit fortunes."  Despotism gave these vices free rein.  " Freedom and freedom alone can extirpate these vices, for only freedom can deliver the members of a community from that isolation which is the lot of the individual left to his own devices..." And " Freedom alone is capable of lifting men's minds above mere mammon worship." Societies must be democratic, and Christian too, but if they were not free, " I make bold to say, never shall we find under such conditions a great citizen, still less a great nation; indeed I would...maintain that where equality and tyranny co exist, a steady deterioration of the mental and moral standards of a nation is inevitable." wrote de Tocqueville. In July 1971, Edward Heath, as Conservative Prime Minister, promised a government White paper, Britain and Europe: " The British safeguards of habeas corpus and trial by jury will remain intact. So will the principle that a man is innocent until proved guilty." " The common law will remain the basis of our legal system." As we watch habeas corpus and the common law go out of the window today along with our other freedoms, it is worth recalling what Winston Churchill; once said about the alternatives if we abandoned our parliamentary democracy: :" there is really only one, namely Dictatorship."  And of its many forms, " rule by a caucus of political secretaries driven by bigoted conviction" was one of them. IT HAD to come sooner or later and now it has happened. A major national newspaper, the Daily Express, has called for Britain to end its full membership of the European Union. let us get two points absolutely clear. 1,  This does not mean severing our 1,000 year trading relationship with that continent.  trade is what we live by, always have.  Trade is what we were told 40 years ago was what would be freed and enhanced by joining [what we believed to be ] the European Economic Area. trade without tariffs, duties, taxes, protectionism and bureaucracy.  And we said YES!, We were lied to, Heath lied to us, they still do. The EU of today and tomorrow is NOT! about TRADE! It is about the end of the nation state, replaced by a vast central governed empire.  For years this has been denied.  Now it is clearly out in the open. But the huge majority of our people are deeply wedded to old Blighty and refuse to abolish her by tricks and threat to become a devolved regional territory. 2. Inside the European Economic Are, like mega -rich Norway, we could trade, trade and trade again with the EU and keep our JUSTICE SYSTEM OUR LAWS OUR JUSTICE SYSTEM and OUR SOVEREIGNTY. And there are vast opportunities out there if only we had the nerve to face OUTWARDS instead of INWARDS. Past evidence would indicate a short period of tenure if that were so.  WE MUST NOT FORGET how Lady Thatcher was removed subsequent to her Bruges Speech, nor Iain Duncan Smith after his in Prague.  Discarding the previous robust party policy of repatriation of fishing rights, appointing a Europhile head of candidate selection and remaining in the federalist European People's party despite promising NOT TO DO SO does little to confirm him as "one of us" for I am certain that TFA Members of all parties are confirmed Eurosceptics.  Cameron says that he will definitely leave the EPP after the 2009 European Elections, finally delivering on his leadership election promise  However Miro Topolanek, the Czech prime Minister, Cameron's partner in forming his proposed post-EEP grouping in the European Parliament is"committed" to ratifying the LISBON TREATY hardly an ideal partner to roll back the EU. As soon as the Conservative MEPs had elected a new leader, the Europhile Timothy Kirkhope, Charles Tannock suggested on Conservative Home , that they should stay in the EPP, for reasons of status. WHAT OF SHADOW FOREIGN SECRETARY WILLIAM HAGUE? I recall his commitment to opposition to the Euro was limited to the life of one parliament.  With the Pound collapsing towards parity with the Euro and the current "beneficial" economic and financial crisis, demands for us to adopt the currency of the EUROPEAN SUPERSTATE will come again harder to oppose post ratification of the LISBON -Treaty which requires it.  We have an OPT-OUT, but nothing is forever. Speaking at the Freedom in the City talk Professor Haseler of the Federal trust confirmed that the EUROPHILES would push for THIS and Roland Rudd , Chairman of Britain for a New Europe had an article calling for this on the Evening Standard website (15.11.08) followed by Will Hutton in the Observer (16.11.08) A major plank of the Conservative's European manifesto will be apparent strident opposition to the LISBON TREATY and  a commitment to hold a further referendum , post a GENERAL ELECTION. This played well until David Cameron made his "Harrow Declaration" diluting his initial commitment. Policy is now: We will be sold the familiar, but sad old tale of unceasing efforts to renegotiate our position in the EU, so much easier from within. [Balderdash!-Fiddle-Faddle!] " So if the Lisbon Treaty is not yet in force at the time of the next General Election  [No fear of that as the supposed reluctant Scot Gordon Brown signed the TREATY OF TREASON and in the words of our greatest English poet 'The man was noble; but with his last attempt he wiped it out; betrayed his country; and his name remains to the ensuing age abhorred.'   William Shakespeare and a Conservative Government is elected we would put the Treaty to a referendum of the British people, recommending a "no" vote  [Well! in 2013 we are told by David Cameron that he would fight to remain in a reformed EU so there was never any truth in the above statement.  The man has been proved a serial liar and traitor to his country and not to be trusted under any circumstances.] If the British people rejected the Treaty, we would withdraw Britain's ratification of it. But if the treaty is in force we will be in a different situation. In our view, then, political integration would have gone too far and the Treaty would lack democratic legitimacy in this country and we would not let matters rest  there." What does " we would not let matter rest there " mean?  We will be sold the familiar, but sad old tale of unceasing efforts to negotiate our position in the EU, so mush easier from within.  Nigel Farage, at the Bruges Group meeting in Birmingham, recalled a cartoon of a fish within a fishing net telling another outside " it is much easier to negotiate from within" If Cameron was really opposed to LISBON he would kill it dead NOW! by offering a referendum, come what may, without qualification. [A reminder this article was written in the Winter of 2008/9 If LISBON is no good before ratification it cannot be good after.  If, because of treaty law, a NO vote in such a referendum meant we would have to leave the EU then so be it.  We would, as the Freedom Association's own campaign states, be "BETTER OFF OUT OF THE EU" anyway. Where are the Conservatives crying out about yet another year of unsatisfactory EU ACCOUNTS [Not been passed for 18 years] With losses of 2p in the £1 being seemed  acceptable by the auditors with actual losses being greater such as 11p in the £1 for structural funds (6 billion Euros) one would expect a Shadow chancellor to be outraged, not pussyfooting around the margins of employment taxes. There will be no referendum, but there will be an early opportunity for all those opposed to LISBON and everything else that is wrong with our membership of the EU clearly to highlighting this. Voting for the UKIP on 4 June -2009 [Certainly in June 2014] and securing yet more UKIP MEPS will send a message to the EU, the Government, and most importantly, David Cameron, that we seek change. LEND US YOUR VOTE AND CHANGE YOUR COUNTRY-PUT COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY.    am certain that David Cameron would then be forced to CHANGE and PROMISE us the POLICIES the MAJORITY DEMAND. [A REVOLUTION IS IN THE MAKING] BUT NOT IN ENGLAND] Italian Riot Police Remove Helmets, Join Anti-EU Protesters   Remarkable video shows cops in display of solidarity with fellow countrymen Paul Joseph Watson Infowars.com December 10, 2013 A remarkable video shows Italian riot police removing their helmets in solidarity with anti-EU demonstrators in Turin who are protesting against the state of the economy, the single currency and fuel prices. The demonstrators are an eclectic amalgamation of Italians, from truckers to students. The origin of the protests stems from the ‘Pitchfork Movement’, which began as a group of Sicilian farmers pushing for government reforms but grew into a nationwide revolt against banks, the Italian tax collection agency Equitalia, the European Union, and the Socialist-backed minority government, which is moving to privatize higher education. “Many share the protesters’ anger and at one point police officers in Turin took off their helmets, in a show of solidarity,” reports Euronews. “We farmers are on the streets to say ‘Enough!’ to the state, the government, the unions. We just can’t manage anymore,” Giorgio Bissoli, spokesman for the Azione Rurale protest group in the Veneto region told Canale 5 television, adding, “Our main priority is that they all have to go!” Discontent over fuel prices, globalization and the European Union’s draconian austerity measures are also expected to lead to a huge anti-EU backlash in next year’s European parliamentary elections. According to a flyer being handed out by the protesters, they represent, “the unemployed, casual workers, pensioners, workers in every sector, students, mothers and fathers,” who see it as their duty “to throw out the criminals who hold power.” The movement doesn’t appear to have any partisan political identity and represents a populist uprising against policies that have devastated Italy’s economy. Italian youth unemployment is over 40 per cent as the country remains embroiled in a deep recession. A staggering 134 retail outlets in Italy are closed every day and business failures are up 10 per cent since last year alone. Police removing their riot gear and joining with protesters is slowly turning into a refreshing social trend. Last week, Thai police who were ordered to harass demonstrators chose instead to lay down their shields and helmets. On a historical scale, police joining in solidarity with demonstrators is often a pre-cursor to massive social change, such as before the fall of the Berlin Wall or the removal of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. The calculations are based on the latest figures from the European Banking Authority (EBA), which relate to 2012. Taking account of more recent data, Labour has assumed that bankers’ incomes will be maintained at the same level this year.
