BRITAIN'S voting system is 'archaic' and divisive' and does not represent the will of millions, a pressure group has argued. The Electoral Reform Society, which has campaigned for proportional representation for 130 years, claimed last month's General Election was the most disproportionate ever. It said UKIP would have WON up to 80 seats using the type of PR used in many European nations, while the GREENS would have got 20. UKIP and the GREENS received 5MILLION VOTES, but under the FIRST-PAST-THE-POST system ended up with ONE MP each. An E R S-commissioned survey said under PR the TORIES would have seen their tally of MPs fall by almost 100 while LABOUR would have gone down 24...

	Will the mainstream parties now compromise on the EU to prevent a Four- Party parliamentary system? The UKIP must not compromise its determination to take the UK out of the EU with the large support in the country the party will certainly win seats at the forthcoming General Election. The other main parties by not listening and acting on the views of millions of voters who want no political union with Europe have placed themselves within their own Berlin Wall with no point of entrance for those disgruntled voters. One result which will become apparent after the next election is that there will be another major political party formed which will bring about a realignment of party faction within our House of Commons which will be to the betterment of our at present dying Democracy. For once there is an alternative party, which can grow with the views of the past held in respect with sensible change where it is necessary and not because the Legislature should not be idle. Better fewer laws and an understanding that our way-of-life and our environment are more important than the increased wealth and population of the Nation. Many other countries in our latitude are able to retain their priorities of protecting their environment and control immigration are some of the richest and most contented countries in the world. But I’m sure that they would rather take a drop in living standards rather than destroy their heritage. It is a choice we should bear in mind because soon (if YOU let it happen) this country of ours will no longer bear any resemblance to the country many of us have known. Progress we must have but it must be finely balanced to ensure that what we do in the name of progress will not damage our inherited land. The flood of legislation from the EU has now reached a mania with its targets for this and that, whether it is Wheelie Bins in a picturesque Devon village or Wind Farms in areas of outstanding beauty, or the refusal to allow the traditional display of country produce outside a shop, just a small number of the thousands of interferences in our lives since joining the supposed Common Market in 1972. We have a multitude of Directives and Regulations, which because of our accustomed respect for the Rule of Law ethic, have been implemented without exception and with no respect for common sense, whereas those across our channel have no trouble in ignoring the trash which is slowly but insidiously beginning to change the country many of you love. WE must retain our beautiful landscape for it is an asset of unparalleled benefit to the physical and particularly the mental well-being of the People and should not be put at risk-as it is held in trust by us ALL –FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.
