‘Why Iraq’s ‘millstones’ are really ‘millstones.’

 

PRESIDENT BUSH’S suggestion of ‘bombing’ the al-Jazeera broadcasting station is all too easily seen as another sign of the man’s near clinical stupidity.

BUT it may be worse than that.  Over 50 years, the U.S. has resorted regularly to every type of violence against its enemies- real and supposed- notably in lain America, through the mechanism of the

 

Central Intelligence Agency

 

With the Iraq war going so badly, blowing up a broadcasting station would not seem too outlandish in

 

Washington

 

Even if it is situated in Qatar, an allied State.  No doubt the CIA would come up with a suitable device to plant at ground level.  At any rate, London took the suggestion seriously, which is WHY the Government is so frantic to suppress the story.

 

For supporters of the war- a dwindling, but stubborn group both in Britain and the U.S.- there is always something just around the corner to make all the difference and produce stability and peace.

 

There was the handing over to the interim governing council composed of Iraqis.

 

Then the signing of the interim constitution and the appointment of a caretaker government.

After that, the appointment of a prime minister and the choice of a national assembly was going to show us sceptics- just you wait and see.

 

But the violence got worse.

 

The popular vote approving the constitution was going to be a real milestone.

 

BUT the horrors multiplied.

 

NOW it is being argued that the General Election NEXT MONTH-December 2005 will mark the real turning point.

 

IT WON’T. OF COURSE;

 

It will merely mark out the fierce religious and secular splits in the country.

 

The ONLY encouraging aspect of those ELECTIONS is that they could allow the allies to say:

 

THERE YOU ARE you have your own democratic government, WE CAN LEAVE.  IF we are lucky- let us pray- the new government may even ask us to GO.

THERE ARE so many reasons why we should not least because the whole madcap adventure is knocking the stuffing out of the Army, one of the few British institutions we still value highly.

 

OUR TROOPS know all to well how the public disproves of the war.

They had no difficulty in performing their original task – defeating an enemy’s armed forces.

BUT for two-and –half years now they have had to perform a policing task, which demands nerves of steel and the patience of a saint.  As if that was not enough,

they operate constantly in fear of being investigated for anything that goes wrong.

 

Of course outright acts of brutality or indiscipline must be tracked down.

 

BUT young men, faced by split-second decisions about whether or not an approaching vehicle contains a suicide bomber, know in the back of their minds that if they get it wrong, they may be Court-Marshalled-Sentenced and Disgraced.

 

BEHIND it all, cosy in their Whitehall offices, our politician’s look for any chance to show what high-minded folk they are in searching ruthlessly for any APPARENT misdemeanours.

 

The strain on our soldiers; nerves and morale, day after day and week after week, is fearful.  And they can have no illusions NOW about the justice of the war.

 

It is not just junior ranks that suffer.  Even a decorated commanding officer is in peril. Colonel Mendonca of the Queen’s Lancashire Regiment faces charges over an incident involving a handful of his troops in 2003, but will not come to trial for many months.

To make matters worse, the Government is planning to deploy 5,000 troops to the thankless if not impossible task of keeping order in Afghanistan where, despite its elections supposed to bring peace and harmony, the government’s writ scarcely runs outside the capital Kabul.

 

[Well!  we know that the deployment is a favour for Blair’s buddy dear old George who by the way is NOW encountering a great deal of flak on his own territory]

 

WOULD YOU join up in the Army today or in the foreseeable future?  Here we have a curiosity

Unsurprisingly-by 7 per cent.  If the figure is surprisingly modest, this is BECAUSE the gaps are being filled by an inflow from

 

COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES

 

LAST YEAR, in the 1^st Battalion of the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, Commonwealth citizens made up

 

20 PER CENT

 

For the Army as a whole, the figure is 6 per cent with heavy concentrations in the INFANTRY.

 

You may give credit to various individuals in this group- one of them won a VC- BUT the situation is pregnant with dangers.

 

One might draw a parallel with the Roman Empire in its decline when it made itself reliant on foreign auxiliaries.  THE PROBLEM was that doubts arose about their primary loyalties.  Were they for ROME or did their sympathies lie across borders where their kinsfolk lived?

 

[Well! apart from Blair’s passionate involvement in the European Army and his past record for illegal invasion we must dread what future will hold for OUR Army should the possibility of a mutiny take place within its ranks of those who objected to having to fight their own kith and Kin. 

 

We may even see our close neighbours in our Island decide that they will have their own defence forces in order to ensure their safety –but that would be a disaster for everyone.  IT IS UNLIKELY TO HAPPEN ANYWAY BECAUSE OF THE COST and we all live together in OUR Island and our mixed qualities have contributed to the vigour and dependability and loyalty, which we all feel for OUR shared Homeland.]

Such a problem has not arisen yet.  But it might be different if our forces were deployed – and anything is possible with

 THIS GOVERNMENT

- in places in Africa or Asia where Commonwealth troops felt a conflict of loyalties. In any case, British recruits like to feel they are joining an ESSENTIALLY BRITISH institution

 

APPARENTLY the Ministry of Defence has ceased active recruitment in Commonwealth countries.  BUT that does not mean more of them will not join.  Here is the perfect passport to British residence.

Britain’s 20 biggest military equipment projects are now more than £3 billion over budget and falling further behind schedule, it was revealed yesterday.

 

The figures from the National Audit Office [How Tony would love to do-away with this INDEPENDENT parliamentary body as easily as he has almost given away the THOUSAND-YEAR Constitution of OUR COUNTRY] emerged after a FAILED attempt by Labour to put a positive spin on them.

 

Earlier this week, Defence Minister–a millionaire businessman and generous donor to the Labour Party [OF COURSE] –summoned journalists to reveal selected findings from the damning report.

Last night, his efforts unravelled as the SPEAKER of the COMMONS condemned briefing the MEDIA before the REPORT was given to PARLIAMENT.

The criticism is a further embarrassment for Lord Drayson, only a month after the

revealed how he tried to halt a Parliamentary Inquiry into a troubled plan to build two aircraft carriers.

 

At his Press briefing on Tuesday Lord Drayson claimed that costs on Defence Projects had been reduced over the past year.

 

BUT the NAC report makes clear that those ‘savings’ are mostly cuts involving scrapping weapons systems or slashing the number of new warships, missiles and torpedoes being bought.

 

In one case – a £3.8 billion project to build new submarine-hunting Nimrod jets – spending soared another £215 million over budget last year, even though the number being built was slashed from 18 to 12.

 

The £3 billion overrun-equivalent to almost a tenth of the Ministry of Defence’s annual budget – does not include the troubled Eurofighter project.  In previous years, this has accounted for some £2.3 billion in overruns, but it is left out of the REPORT because the figures are ‘commercially sensitive’.

 

The 20 major projects included in the study range from jet bombers to flight simulators and from torpedoes to communication satellites.  [No doubt these will be used to watch every movement of the millions of people in this country who have had their fill with New Labour under King Tony and HIS cronies]

 

Over the past year, the average delay for each project rose by two and a half months, and now stands at 20 months. [So any members of our Armed Forces who find themselves fighting another ILLEGAL war will have to club together and find the necessary equipment elsewhere - as many of them have done in the past

and do today though they may have difficulty with the expense of some of the projects in question-.maybe Lord Drayson will be generous in this matter –our brave soldiers in Iraq will certainly appreciate the offer – though for a start better protection against road-bombs for their vehicles would certainly be a WINNER.]

Far worse cases include the new fleet of Nimrod MRA4 maritime reconnaissance jets, which were due to enter service in April 2003.   They are now more than seven years behind schedule and almost £1 billion over budget, despite the number of aircraft being dramatically cut.

 

The 33.5 billion Astute Class nuclear-powered hunter-killer submarine should have entered service this June, but is four years late, and £914 million over budget.

The Queen has thrown their sacrifices away and made them worthless. At no physical risk to herself, she could have fulfilled her oath and duty as a constitutional check and balance, by refusing to sign the six treaties until an in/out referendum had been held. In the unlikely event the vote went against her, she was even more unlikely to lose her crown (not her life or a limb), and would keep her £9 billion plus palaces either way. Those servicemen's lives would still have meant something.   But she was always keen to sign; and said in advance she would sign the last treaty. Princes Charles, William or Harry can now never be King. You can't have a King without a Kingdom: they can only be princes of a region (principality) within Europe. King Edward 8th was forced to abdicate because he was too overt as a German Nazi supporter. Mrs Simpson's divorce was merely the excuse. The Royal Family is a German Family - real surname Saxe-Coburg Gotha. Windsor is an adopted surname. All four of Prince Phillip's sisters married high ranking German Nazis. After they lost the war the EU was switched from a Nazi basis to a communist basis.
