The aphorism has a wider application."

AS we see in England at the present time in April,2019 when the country appears divided on the issue of the bedrock of our ENGLISH CONSTITUTION of a FREE ENGLAND as concluded at the

ENGLISH REVOLUTION  .

And our troubles have arisen since because the

"FUNDAMENTALS of THE REVOLUTION ."

were NOT then or later EMBEDDED into the

 ENGLISH CONSTITUTION.

IT IS WELL TO REALISE THAT IF THERE HAD BEEN IN EXISTENCE A ENGLISH PARLIAMENT as there is SCOTTISH and WELSH it would have been most unlikely that we would  have ever joined HITLER'S PLANNED so-called EUROPEAN UNION  in 1973 which was to ensure a

GREATER GERMANY IN THE PEACE.

THE BREXIT PARTY must lead to the return of an

ENGLISH PARLIAMENT

to PROTECT our PRICELESS INHERITANCE

of the

"RIGHTS AND LIBERTIES OF ENGLISHMEN."

STILL RESPECTED AND ENJOYED BY A GREATER PART OF THE FREE INDEPENDENT NATIONS OF THE WORLD.

DEMOCRACY AND REPRESENTATION

the principles of politics

INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY OF THE EVOLUTION

OF POLITICAL IDEAS

BY

A. R . LORD

1926

...Another method of democratizing  a representative government requires all important acts of the legislature  to be referred to a popular vote before they become law. Sometimes such a referendum applies to acts affecting the constitution alone; sometimes it is of more extended scope. But however it is arranged, the significance and meaning of a referendum is clearly that in the last resort the

PEOPLE ALONE ARE THE SOVEREIGN AUTHORITY.

WAR-MONGERS

[The Zionist led USA with its poodle England has illegally invaded Islamic countries for their own gain with no thought for future consequences.  Those individuals such as George Bush and Tony Blair are WAR CRIMINALS as are those who follow their despicable and illegal actions which must surely one day bring them before the INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT for 'RIGHT JUSTICE' to be delivered for their grievous WAR CRIMES.  But for Parliament's VETO! of David Cameron's attempt to send British Forces into SYRIA he too would have joined the band of war criminals above. The billions spent on illegal wars such as Kosovo and many others in the Arab world could have been used to raise the STANDARD OF LIVING of the PEOPLE instead of making the RICH even RICHER while the rest of the population are struggling to make ends meet.  We believe that we should have efficient ARMED FORCES to PROTECT our ISLAND HOME but NOT! for ILLEGAL excursions around the WORLD.

UK voting system' ignores will of millions'

by

Daniel Martin for the Daily Mail -Chief Political Correspondent-JUNE 2-2015.

BRITAIN'S voting system is 'archaic' and divisive' and does not represent the will of millions, a pressure group has argued. The Electoral Reform Society, which has campaigned for proportional representation for 130 years, claimed last month's General Election was the most disproportionate ever.  It said UKIP would have WON up to 80 seats using the type of PR used in many European nations, while the GREENS would have got 20.  UKIP and the GREENS received 5MILLION VOTES, but under the FIRST-PAST-THE-POST system ended up with ONE MP each.  An E R S-commissioned survey said under PR the TORIES would have seen their tally of MPs fall  by almost 100 while  LABOUR would have gone down 24...

Elections in the British One Party State

If you vote Conservative, Labour, Lib-Dem, UKIP or the BNP, you'll be voting for the EU dictatorship. All five party leaderships are EU controlled. That's why your vote doesn't make a difference - all these five parties have the same policies: the EU's policies.

The 17 most senior politicians in the Conservative, Lib Dem and Labour parties, including Ken Clarke, Francis Maude, Cameron, William Hague, George Osborne, Nick Clegg, Brown, David and Ed Milliband, Ed Balls, Peter Mandleson are Bilderbergers, the 140 strong band of ultra senior Freemasons who are bribed by the EU to build the EU dictatorship.

No Bilderberger, Freemason or Common Purpose graduate should ever be allowed to hold public office.

UKIP and the BNP are honey traps to neutralise activists: UKIP is riddled with Freemasons and Common Purpose like a cancer, and the BNP controlled by the Edgar Griffin (father) and son Nick Freemasonry family. The 350,000 freemasons and the 40,000 strong Common Purpose Organisation are the (mostly unknowing) foot soldiers of the EU in Britain. (Which makes the BNP the easiest party to clean up - get rid of the Griffins, and put in a real anti-EU leadership.)

How The Crown Rules the World

[Comments in brackets are ours!]

OCTOBER 30-2015

THE European Union is an 'economic failure' and Britain would be richer if it left, a group of leading economists said yesterday.

They claimed EU membership was holding back growth and branded the euro an 'unmitigated disaster'.

Every worker in the UK would be £40 a week better off a decade after Brexit and the economy would be 4 percent bigger than if the UK stayed in the EU, the economists claimed.

The findings are a direct challenge to George Osborn's claims the the economy would be 6.2 percent smaller by 2030 if Britain votes

TO LEAVE

in the

REFERENDUM

ON JUNE 23 - 2016

Professor Patrick Minford, a former adviser to Margaret Thatcher and one of the authors of yesterday's report branded the Treasury's analysis

'as a totally misleading piece of

PROPAGANDA'

He said it was 'based on almost no proper economic thought and does not stand up to any kind of scrutiny,'

Rather than delivering a Brexit tax'-as claimed by the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) this week - the report argued leaving the EU

would result in a

 BREXIT DIVIDEND

The 'Economists for Brexit' report said output would be higher and wage growth stronger if Britain

LEFT THE EU.

It added that the 'City of London' would continue to THRIVE.

'A  lot of economic nonsense has been talked so far in the Brexit  debate,. 'Most of it has come from the PROJECT FEAR campaign launched by Downing Street.'

Professor Minford, who set up the self-funded eight-man group to challenge the 'consensus' view of the Treasury and international Monetary Fund, said the boost would come from reduced RED TAPE strangling British businesses and a move away from the  the

PROTECTIONIST TRADING UNION'

of the EU towards

FREE TRADE

'Brexit is a shock-a good shock,' he said.

OUR GROUND FORCES (OTHER THAN SPECIAL FORCES) SHOULD NOT BE DEPLOYED UNLESS THEIR EQUIPMENT IS ADEQUATE FOR THE PURPOSE. IF THERE ARE PROBLEMS WE SHOULD ADVISE OUR ALLIES THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE GROUND TROOPS BUT OFFER INCREASED NUMBERS OF SPECIAL FORCES OR ADDITIONAL NAVAL & AIR SUPPORT.

IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE CONFLICT WE EXPECT THE GOVERNMENT TO SHOW THE SAME CONCERN AND GENEROSITY TO THE MEMBERS OF OUR ARMED SERVICES AS THEIR LOTTERY COMMISSION SHOWED TO THE REFUGEE ORGANIZATION BY PROVIDING A FUND OF IN EXCESS OF £60,000.000 TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE ASSISTANCE TO ALL SERVICE PERSONNEL WHO MAY SUFFER IN THE ENCOUNTER.

WE WOULD ALSO EXPECT THAT ANY ADDITIONAL INADEQUACIES OF EQUIPMENT REVEALED BY WAR CONDITIONS WILL BE SWIFTLY RECTIFIED TO ENSURE THAT THE RISK TO THE LIVES OF OUR FORCES ARE MINIMIZED AND THAT NEVER AGAIN SHOULD OUR SERVICE PERSONNEL BE PUT IN A WAR ZONE WITHOUT ADEQUATE EQUIPMENT.

For more details go to :http://eutruth.org.uk

IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF

UKIP

 OR

INTEND TO JOIN THEM TAKE NOTE OF THE MESSAGE ABOVE

THE EDP HAS BEEN CRITICAL OF THE MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP OF THE UKIP FOR SOME TIME NOW AS IS SHOWN IN A NUMBER OF BULLETINS  OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS WHERE WE HAVE CRITICISED THEIR LACK LUSTRE PERFORMANCE AS THEY FAILED TO MOTIVATE THEIR MEMBERSHIP TO A MORE DETERMINED CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE CAMPAIGN WHICH WOULD HAVE MADE THE GOVERNMENTS TREMBLE BUT THEY HAD NO WORRY BECAUSE THEY HAD THEIR OWN PERSONS IN CHARGE AT THE TOP OF THE ORGANISATION.  THIS FIGHTING SPIRIT HAS BEEN LACKING AND WE CAN CONFIRM THIS OURSELVES BECAUSE WE HAVE BEEN OUTSIDE PARLIAMENT WHEN A MARCH WAS CANCELLED - AND WATCH THE FARCE WHEN CANDLES WERE HELD AND THOUSANDS OF LETTERS SENT TO MPS WHO KNEW WHERE TO DISPOSES OF THEM -AND ALL TO NO AVAIL.  IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF UKIP YOU HAVE BEEN BETRAYED BY YOUR OWN LEADERSHIP SOME APPEAR ON THE ALEX JONES SHOW WHICH HAS BEEN UNDER CLOSE SPOTLIGHT RECENTLY AS BEING CLOSE TO AN ISRAELI SECURITY FIRM DETAILS ON OUR WEBSITE .    IRONICALLY IT WAS A CHANCE LOOK ON THE INTERNET A FEW YEARS AGO  TO COME UPON THAT SITE WHICH OPENED OUR MIND TO THE ILLUMINATI.   THOUGH WE HAVE SOME DETAILS OF THE BILDERBERGERS ON OUR SITE  A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO WE FAILED TO DO MORE RESEARCH- WE ALL HAVE TO LEARN.  THE FAILURE OF UKIP WE HAVE SUSPECTED  FOR MANY YEARS   THAT MANY AT THE TOP OF THEIR ORGANISATION MIGHT BE UNDERCOVER MEMBERS OF THE ILLUMINATI.  IT IS A FAVOURITE TRICK OF THEIRS TO SUPPORT ANY PARTY OR ORGANISATION AT THE OUTSET WHATEVER ITS POLICY AS IT ALLOWS THEM TO PUT THEIR OWN PEOPLE IN TO CONTROL ITS POLICES AS THEY BEHIND THE SCENES SUPPLY THE VITAL FINANCIAL SUPPORT.

Our intention is not to benefit from this disaster as since the 1999 European Election we have NOT! accepted a DONATION! from ANYONE! and we closed membership also because we did not wish to split the vote for UKIP but have stated in the past that we would contest another election if it was ever necessary to enter into the affray again and with the reputation of UKIP under scrutiny we will keep our options OPEN!   As we mentioned some time ago we have been almost two decades on the campaign trail to free our once FREE INDEPENDENT NATION STATE of ENGLAND from the SATANIC EU and those who have for centuries have planned for an EVIL ONE-WORLD CORPORATION/GOVERNMENT and EXTERMINATE! at least 5 BILLION of the WORLD'S POPULATION and therefore if we are right about those mentioned above they are not only TRAITORS to their COUNTRY but also a THREAT to WORLD PEACE.   However, of late, matters have NOT! been going well for the ILLUMINATI as you will observe BELOW.

The Queen, Treason and the Coronation oath

Together with Churchill, King George VI saved our nation; he was a Monarch to be proud of. But his daughter the Queen is the only monarch to have broken all her coronation oaths, by signing these six treaties that abolish our common law, the British Constitution, the British and English nations, and our sovereignty. She has also committed treason, together with co-signatories Ted Heath, Margaret Thatcher, John Major, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.

Realising that under the five Treason Acts they should already be hanging by the neck until dead, Tony Blair and the Queen signed the Crime and Disorder Act, 1998, which secretly abolished much of the crime of treason (s36.3) and reduced the penalty to life imprisonment - they didn't tell the MP's what they had just voted for.

1.4 million British Servicemen gave their lives for our independence. The Queen has thrown their sacrifices away and made them worthless.

At no physical risk to herself, she could have fulfilled her oath and duty as a constitutional check and balance, by refusing to sign the six treaties until an in/out referendum had been held. In the unlikely event the vote went against her, she was even more unlikely to lose her crown (not her life or a limb), and would keep her £9 billion plus palaces either way. Those servicemen's lives would still have meant something.

But she was always keen to sign; and said in advance she would sign the last treaty. Princes Charles, William or Harry can now never be King. You can't have a King without a Kingdom: they can only be princes of a region (principality) within Europe.

King Edward 8th was forced to abdicate because he was too overt as a German Nazi supporter. Mrs Simpson's divorce was merely the excuse. The Royal Family is a German Family - real surname Saxe-Coburg Gotha. Windsor is an adopted surname. All four of Prince Phillip's sisters married high ranking German Nazis. After they lost the war the EU was switched from a Nazi basis to a communist basis.

Between the ages of 12 and 22 Queen Elisabeth's political and constitutional tutor was Sir Henry Martin, a Fabian Communist. It seems clear she was well trained for her subversion and treason.

Because she waves and smiles at us most are fooled into thinking she's lovely; in fact the Queen is a member of the Illuminati, a Bilderberger, head of Freemasonry, is wholly pro the (German) EU, and has abolished this nation with ruthless determination. It is so obvious she cares nothing for Britain or the British.

The Queen's aspirations are not ours; she clearly serves a much darker master; the faith she defends cannot be the one we think it is. King George VI, the one recent monarch not indoctrinated with Nazi or Communist philosophy, must be turning over in his grave.

I ask that the law be enforced, and the Queen be tried for treason before 12 honest people, and not by our corrupt judges. And that the illegal section 36.3 Crime and Disorder Act be declared null and void, so that she can hang by the neck till dead.

The new EU Hitler doesn't have to get elected
Its worth noting that Adolf Hitler first had to get elected, if on a 35% minority vote, and then get his Enabling Act passed. An EU dictator has no such problems. Our EU rulers do not submit themselves for election now. And the Queen has already signed the Enabling Act (Civil Contingencies Act 2004).

The EU's Hitler will have a much easier rise to power, and will have the formerly British and French nuclear weapons from day one. Adolf Hitler killed 54 million people. The EU's dictator could kill a billion at the touch of a button, with no democratic checks and balances to answer to. How could any aspiring dictator resist the EU opportunity?

+THE HISTORY OF THE MONEY CHANGERS

KNOWN GOOD GUYS UNDER SUSPICION OF BEING PROVOCATEURS ON BEHALF OF THE ILLUMINATI.

As we have explained elsewhere it is this typical situation which we must fear the most and expect this insidious practice of the satanic ILLUMINATI who wish to ensure where possible that it is THEIR STOOGE in CONTROL! within their ENEMIES camp.  We suspect that there are many more within UKIP [-possibly even MEP's-one talking about a deal with the Conservative party ] and  BNP and other declared advocates across the political spectrum pursuing  FREEDOM! and NATION STATE! who will soon share the space below.

There are always great difficulty in these matters and one can only go on the actions and contacts of the individuals involved.

There can be no greater or more heinous crime imaginable than for one to betray the TRUST of a COMRADE fighting for a JUST! and GOOD CAUSE!

'It is said: 'No man can justly censure or condemn another, because indeed no man truly knows another'

But what we are considering is at a time when those who intend to destroy the majority of mankind and make serfs of the majority allowed to live and  It is a WAR we are FIGHTING for SURVIVAL! and in such circumstances a persons ACTIONS or lack of ACTION! are the ONLY basis on which one can JUDGE! another.

Finally it is up to the membership of UKIP and BNP to purge THEIR PARTY of the TRAITORS within and look for those who have the fire in their belly to carry the party forward to VICTORY!

WAR ON IRAQ
BULLETIN ONE

INADEQUACIES IN EQUIPMENT WHICH WOULD
ENDANGER THE LIVES OF OUR SERVICE PERSONNEL.

[The above bulletin was the first ever on our new bulletin board back in 2003]

ON MAY 27-2017 WE ARE ADDING BELOW IRAQI-WAR BULLETINS NO's 1-8

BLOOD IS CHEAP- BILLIONS ARE MADE

The events in Iraq have up to December 16th 2004 resulted in the death toll of:

              1297 - USA

                  74 - UK          [ July7/8-2007-Now-159

5911 - Iraqi Troops and Police

            15,045 - Civilians

                    25 – Media

We ask if Governments had had to budget for payouts of millions of pounds for every soldier killed or wounded –would they be so ready to declare illegal war.

With each casualty having to be paid millions of pounds would they not also have ensured that there was no shortage of personal armour and close support transport?

At the moment Armament firms and associated companies are no doubt being hard pressed to supply the necessary levels of vital parts in order to prosecute an extended and illegal war.

There are also the large reconstruction contracts with which firms will have their hands full for many a year to come which will also profit from the lucrative work which from observing the break-down of law and order in Iraq will escalate because of the day to day increase in damage to the infrastructure of the country.

We are not adverse to a Government ensuring that they have efficient and effective Armament and associated industries but that the vast profits will have been accumulated on the precious blood of the armed forces of our country which in a legal war when the life of a nation is a risk every citizen soldier accepts that he may have to give up his life in defence of his of his family and his country.

In a number of instances Reservists have been recalled to the colours which having being a civilian one-day and then find oneself at war the next increases the stress and concern with all that entails and therefore the greater the anger when the legality of the war is questioned.

What we have today is an illegal war which we are now told will last 5 years-but was not something like this said by the Americans in the Vietnam war and we all know how long and disastrous that war was.

It is now established that the necessity for an Invasion of Iraq is not now supported by the evidence and therefore those who in positions of trust in Government should Resign but before they do a major portion of the billions of pounds/dollars of profit made should be directed to the families of those killed or wounded as a warning to future governments that an illegal war will not be fought for by the priceless blood of their citizens without a massive payout from those who profit from the illegal war.

The citizen expects that he may have to give his life in defence of his country but he is not expected to give his life or be injured in an illegal war and at the same time have sections of industry making billions in profit some of which may reach those who have influenced the decision to go to war – possibly one day this information will see the light of day.

Mr Geoffrey Hoon the Defence Minister has always shown distain for the adequate needs of the infantry soldier and now he is embarked on destroying the century’s traditions of the British Army and its few remaining infantry regiments because of Cost.

If the people of this Island home put up with this explanation in the fourth richest country in the world with billions of pounds wasted in faulty hardware and over budget public buildings and white –elephants and much more - then they deserve to face the dangers ahead when our country is threatened from without.

SO NO ONE IS TO BLAME FOR IRAQ WAR?

Part 2

What is wanted now is an Inquiry into Lord Butler to find out how it was so easy for a Senior Civil Servant (against the advice of his own senior civil servants) in 1997 to change the pattern of our democratic workings of our Constitution established over a hundred and fifty years ago by handing to his old pal the unbridled power of a Dictator.

Hitler came to power in the same way by signing a piece of paper and on January 30th, 1933, became Chancellor of Germany and we know what happened to him. It is ironic that after almost 60 years since the death of Adolf that we in turn have a similar devious character as the Dictator of our Nation-who has now been found out and who we are now waiting to see tumble.

It is well known in law that if you give a loaded firearm to someone who is inexperienced in its use then you yourself are guilty of any consequences resulting from the use of that firearm. Well! It was unwise for Lord Butler to offer the ‘Kingdom on a Plate’ without judging what might happen, as many of his colleagues reminded him.

His action in ignoring those warnings was culpable and as with the analogy above he [Lord (Robin) Butler of the Scott Inquiry fame –when he suggested that ‘half a picture can be true’] handed his old friend his powerpiece and look what he has done with it.

For Lord (Robin) Butler to decline to take some responsibility for what has happened would be a Travesty of Justice? -We were Robbed as those in Sherwood Forest were robbed of their ‘rights and liberties of Englishmen’ and their Country -when there was then a Tyrant on the throne by the name of King John and we know his treachery led to the Magna Carta in 1215- a great legacy of our Constitution which was recently quoted by The Supreme Court of the United States of America a few weeks ago in support of legal representation of Al Qaeda prisoners in Guantanamo Bay.

In our day our Tyrant Tony’s distain for our Values must lead to a new Written Constitution to protect our Heritage- The alternative would be either a Civil War or with the Parliament taking the matter in its own hands as it has done on a number of occasions in our long history when the Freedom of our Nation is at stake- They have always chosen in the past at times of crisis for the good of the Country and not for Party advantage – will they do so today?

Those who mock the true patriots of this Realm will soon learn that we are made of the same fibre as in those of other days when our Country was under threat from another Tyrant who silently left our shores in 1688 when he knew that the People had awakened from their sleep to claim their Liberties as we now do today.

It has been said that the success of the British Constitution is dependent upon tolerance, trust, mutual trust and identity of view regarding fundamentals – qualities conspicuously lacking at the International level. In consequence we hope our present Dictator will lose no time in leaving our shores for the Continent where he will welcomed with open arms.

‘Orders in Council’

[A way of bypassing the Commons]

[When we as a Nation have men of Integrity at the helm of our Nation State there is the utmost confidence in their use of the Prerogative of State. But recent events have uncovered the Lies and Deceit by many politicians over the last 50 years. We hope we will soon have replaced the traitors in our midst for more honourable Statesmen, who we need urgently to save our Country’s Independence and Integrity in the World of the 21st century.]

‘Orders in Council’

Made ‘by and with the consent of the Privy Council’, for such matters as altering the government of a colony or commanding the issue of writs for the calling of a new Parliament.  The Clerk of the Council and the Seal affixed signs orders.  While the Councillors present need not contain a minister, application has to be made by a minister to the Lord President for the making of the Order.

To show the importance of an Order in   Council this is an instrument of the prerogative which is required in order to dissolve Parliament or declare War, [or furnish Tony Blair’s cottage cabal of advisers, or other needs in an emergency]–made at a Privy Council meeting summoned by the Lord President, and a Proclamation, for which the Lord Chancellor in affixing the Great Seal accepts responsibility.

Whistleblower John Morrison –Former Deputy Chief of Intelligence-Sacked.

*

‘Sacked – the intelligence
chief who dared to criticize
Blair over war claims’

In the Daily Mail on Monday, 26th July.2004-Political Correspondent Graeme Wilson’s article shown below of the sacking of yet another whistleblower who had the courage to speak out when others remained silent must support the view that we do live under a Dictatorship.

*

Downing Street was under fire last night after a senior intelligence official was sacked for daring to criticise Tony Blair over the war in Iraq.

John Morrison- the former deputy chief of intelligence at the Ministry of Defence-spoke out in a BBC Panorama documentary about the Intelligence, which led Britain to arms.

A week later he was axed from his job with Parliament’s Intelligence and Security Committee.

In his Panorama interview he revealed the intelligence community’s deep scepticism about Mr Blair’s claims over Iraq weapons of mass destruction.

Mr Morrison said the intelligence services were stunned when Mr Blair warned of Saddam Hussein’s’ serious and current threat’ to Britain in his foreword to the Downing Street dossier of September 2002.

‘When I heard him using those words I could almost hear the collective raspberry going up around Whitehall,’ he said.

Despite the BBC appearance apparently being cleared by ISC chairman Ann Taylor, Mr Morrison’s comments- just days before Lord Butler’s damaging report- infuriated David Omand, Tony Blair’s intelligence and security co-ordinator and permanent secretary at the Cabinet Office.

He [David Omand] is understood to have held immediate talks with Mrs Taylor a former Labour chief whip.

Within days, Mr Morrison’s five years of service were brought to a swift conclusion in a letter from the committee.

The sacking angered Labour MP’s opposed to the war.

Veteran backbencher Alan Simpson said: ‘The only people who have paid the price for this mistaken war are those who have said what the country believes and knows to be true.’

‘But no amount of sackings- whether it’s Andrew Gilli

gan, Greg Dyke or John Morrison- can hide the Truth.’

Liberal Democrat spokesman Menzies Campbell said:

‘It must be a matter of great regret that Mr Morrison should lose his job for speaking out and informing the public.

‘Scrutiny of the intelligence services should become the responsibility of a Select Committee in the House of Commons, instead of the present arrangements which make the intelligence and security committee too dependent on the Prime Minister’

The ISC was set up in 1994 to provide Parliamentary oversight of the Intelligence Services. Its work is among the most secretive in Whitehall and is overseen by the Cabinet Office.

As the committee’s investigator, Mr Morrison’s role involved pursuing ‘specific matters in greater detail’.

Veteran BBC reporter John Ware, who made the Panorama programme, said:

‘I’m frankly astonished by this news. John Morrison was scrupulous in his approach to this interview.

‘He insisted that we should make no reference to his work for the ISC precisely because he wanted to make clear that he was giving a personal opinion. At no stage did he breach the Official Secrets Act.’

During his appearance, Mr Morrison also revealed how intelligence officers were put under pressure to lie about the effectiveness of earlier military strikes against Iraq- the British and American bombing raids during Operation Desert Fox in 1998.

‘We were pressured to say something had been effective when in the long run we decided that it hadn’t been particularly effective,’ he told the programme.

‘That had never happened in my career before and I didn’t like it very much.’

The Cabinet Office refused to comment on Mr Morrison’s departure yesterday and instead issued a brief statement.

‘John Morrison is currently employed as a contractor by the Cabinet Office on behalf of the ISC as apart time investigator.

‘Mr Morrison has worked for the committee for over five years and his contract will end in October 2004.

‘The Committee- whilst continuing their current work-have no plans to employ a new investigator.’

Mr Morrison said he could not speck to the media.

‘I have no comment to make. My contract prevents me from talking to you, he said

He is the only person in Whitehall to lose his job in the wake of the Butler report.

In contrast, Joint Intelligence Committee chairman, John Scarlett, who was criticised in the report for being influenced by his political masters, has been promoted to head MI6.

The treatment of Mr Morrison will inevitably revive memories of how the Government machine dealt with Dr David Kelly in the weeks before his suicide.

Both men were acknowledged experts in their fields who had served their country with dignity for many years. And both felt compelled to speak out in protest at the way Downing Street moulded intelligence to fit the case for war.

Mr Morrison first joined the defence intelligence staff in 1967 and played a key role in the search for Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction.

NO TIME FOR TRADITION-NO TIME FOR LAW –PLENTY OF TIME FOR ILLEGAL WAR.

Our Defence Secretary Geoffrey Hoon has a vision of how to increase the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the Army and at the same time to destroy the cohesiveness and loyalty to tradition built up over hundreds of years.

There is no hiding Mr Hoon’s real reason for his drastic action but that he wants to do away with our Army having any reminder to our former adversaries of their discomfort of our arms.  This image is not in line with EU-PC.

As with almost everything else which New Labour have changed or increased legislation it is not long before they realise that their precipitate and mainly arrogant actions as in dispensing with the Ancient office of the Lord Chancellorship of England until they were bluntly told that it was not that easy to deprive our country of a long established and venerable Office of State – and ‘corner stone’ of our Constitution.

We will not mention the War as the Executive must wonder how they got themselves into their fine mess. Today the 17th December 2004 in the Andrew Alexander Column it revealed the:

‘One day, we shall know the truth about the sordid deal that was struck by Blair and Bush in the run-up to the Iraq war.

We shall learn it first from the American documents, released under the Freedom of Information Act.  By the time our National Records Office releases the relevant documents, most of us will be dead.

Some of us war opponents’ worst suspicions were confirmed when a prominent American neo –conservative came to London last week.  He proffered the view that the Weapons of Mass Destruction excuse was inserted by Washington at the request of Blair, anxious for ammunition to forestall a Labour rebellion and to win the official Opposition’s support.

That would certainly explain the somewhat erratic line the U.S. pursued over WMD’s. It leaves both Labour MP’s and the Official Opposition looking greater dupes than ever.’

*

A conservative thinker and ecclesiastic Richard Hooker (1554-1600) in his assessment of the perils of his time said:

‘ It has been said that radical reformers are restless spirits that hate slow methods of change and by their blind fanaticism makes everything worse in the end.’

*

But returning to the subject we should not mention the cases of the Army Reservists having being called back to the colours with the natural necessary adjustment to the stress and concern by overnight change from civilian life who were expected to give their live for their country (and as we know have done) and for their families to find out later that their country had been led to war on a LIE.    Does not every soldier have just complaint when they see how the complacent and ‘NO BLAME’ Defence Secretary still remains in his job.

New Labour are now challenged by the highest court in the land –the Law Lords-who have told the Government that they are acting unlawfully by imprisoning terror suspects without trial and that apart from the contravention of the Human Rights (which Tony Blair introduced in 1998) that there is:

‘A LAW OF ENGLAND’

We have all heard of Murphy ‘s Law but not ‘Blair’s Law?

The following are the comments of the LAW LORD-  Lord Hoffman.

‘It calls into question the very existence of an ancient liberty of which this country has now until now been very proud:  freedom from arbitrary arrest and detention, he said.

‘The real threat to the life of the nation, in the sense of a people living in accordance with its traditional laws and political values, comes not from terrorism but from laws such as these.  That is the true measure of what terrorism may achieve.’

IRAQ WAR LATEST –3,000 BRITONS sent home wounded and sick.

In the Daily mail on Monday the 20th December an article by their Defence Correspondent has shown the extent of the suffering caused to many families in the land in the disclosure of the numbers of the wounded and sick –the result of an illegal war.

*

Almost 3,000 British servicemen and women have been flown home from Iraq for hospital treatment after being wounded or falling seriously ill.

The surprisingly high figure shows the price paid by UK military personnel for the campaign, which has so far cost 75 of them their lives.

According to defence officials, the evacuation rate is running at more than 25 people a week- more than 19 months after George bush declared the war officially over in May last year.

As of last Wednesday the total number of medical evacuations from all three services since the start of the war stood at 2,862  Ministry of Defence officials confirmed yesterday.

But they would not give any figures for less serious combat injuries that have not required evacuation back to Britain.

In the past four months alone 65 servicemen and women have been flown home to the UK with serious wounds suffered in combat, as troops continue to come under fire from rebel insurgents and face attacks from roadside bombs.

The British force in Iraq peaked at more than 40,000 during last year’s invasion, and now numbers just under 10,000.

Since the build-up to war began around 60,000 UK servicemen and women have been deployed to Iraq, many of them several times.

Last week, ministers announced plans to hand over the British field hospital in Southern Iraq to Territorial Army reservists, amid a severe shortage of regular Army doctors and nurses and with 900 more part-time soldiers facing call-up orders.

The worst injuries include an Army sergeant flown home to the UK for neurosurgery after he was caught in the blast from a roadside bomb in Basra that killed Black Watch soldier Private Marc Ferns, 21, in August.

Last month, two Black Watch soldiers suffered ‘horrific’ leg injuries from the road-side bomb that killed their Fijian comrade, 27-year-old Private Pita Tukutukuwaqa, during the regiment’s controversial deployment to central Iraq.

The two men survived only because they were standing behind the door of an armoured vehicle, which apparently protected their upper bodies.

The intense heat in Iraq-where summer temperatures frequently top 50c (122f)-has also exacted a heavy toll, with large numbers of troops collapsing from heat exhaustion.

In Basra last summer, more than 150 soldiers from one brigade were flown home with heat-related health problems, and at least two men have died from natural causes thought to have been caused by heat.

The MOD would not give total figures for the number of soldiers suffering from mental health problems such as post –traumatic stress disorder.  Official figures fir the first 12 months since the invasion began in March last year showed 460 recorded as having mental health problems.

Impeach Blair for misleading us over Iraq war- says General Sir Michael Rose.

Daily Mail

Tuesday, January 10, 2006

by

James Chapman and Matthew Hickley

TONY BLAIR should be IMPEACHED for taking Britain to war with IRAQ, says retired General.

General Sir Michael Rose, who led UN forces in Bosnia, said the Prime Minister should NOT be allowed to ‘walk away’ from the CONFLICT.

He accused him of misleading Parliament and the country about his true motives for invading IRAQ.

The General insisted he would have resigned rather than take troops to war based on the Government’s flimsy evidence

He makes the claims in a TV documentary to be shown by Channel 4 later this month.

[We wonder how Admiral Michael Boyce who asked for a legal acceptance of the war from Tony Blair as depicted in the

‘WHY WE WENT TO WAR’ drama/documentary decided to toe the line when he must have had more than a few doubts of the scant legal justification for the war - did not smell a rat, and keep his hands clean]

In the programme [on Channel 4 later this week General Sir Michael Rose] says:

‘The Politicians should be held to

account, and my view is that Blair should be IMPEACHED.

‘That would prevent politicians treating quite so carelessly the subject of taking a country into war.’

Speaking yesterday on Radio 4’s Today programme, he said:

‘To go to war on what turns out to be false grounds is something that no one should be allowed to walk away from.’

Despite Mr Blair’s claims that his aim was to rid Iraq of weapons of mass destruction, he probably has some other strategy in mind, the General said.

He added:

‘The consequences of that war have been quite disastrous both for the people of Iraq, and also for the West in terms of the wider interests in the war against global terror.’

The General is one of a number of retired soldiers taking part in Friday’s documentary-IRAQ: The Failure of WAR -by former war correspondent and Independent MP Martin Bell.

He [General Rose] tells Mr Bell that UN weapons inspectors should have been given more time to see if Saddam Hussein really had such weapons.

‘They (politicians) should not contemplate taking the more serious decision any politician can take - and that is to go to war -without proper grounds and without proper adequate resources to fulfil the strategy that has been outlined.’

In the documentary, Mr Bell denounces war as an ill-considered adventure’.

A group of MP’s tried to have Mr Blair

IMPEACHED

for

HIGH CRIMES and MISDEMEANERS’

-last year. But they have been unsuccessful in getting it debated in the COMMONS. There have been four INQUIRES into different aspects of the CONFLICT.

These include the Butler report into intelligence failings and the Hutton Inquiry into the death of Government scientist Dr David Kelly.

*

[The sad loss of a rare man of PRINCIPLE Robin Cook within the HOUSE whose resignation had it been followed by many others surrounding Tony Blair would have stopped the mad dash to war . The redoubtable Clare Short and Robin Cook were a true exemplars of the best that have been moved by their place of honour in our once respected Mother of Parliaments.

Many still find the death of Robin Cook suspicious knowing the warning that Robin Cook gave to the Prime Minster at the time of his resignation that even he may lose his Crown. We have the case of David Kelly as a prime example. What an opportunity for a rogue unit within MI6 to obtain an operative to dispose of a man who is on a climbing holiday - it is a perfect Agatha Christie plot.

But those who have already betrayed their country would have no compunction in removing such an accomplished and stolid man of PRINCIPLE and INTEGRITY as his stature would always be an affront in the HOUSE to those who did not appreciate his HONESTY and BRAVERY to make a stand. The war lobby with the PM at its head were committed to the deed of HELL and low betide any late defections]

One is reminded of the words of Lord Acton (1834-1902)

‘POWER TENDS TO CORRUPT, AND ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY’

To continue:

More than 100 MP’s are backing calls for an investigation of how the Government came to back the U.S. INVASION.

Mr Blair’s official spokesman said:

‘General Rose is entitled to his view, Equally, the Government is entitled to point out that we have had free democratic elections in Iraq for the first time in well over a generation.

‘In terms of the reasons why we went to war, that has been investigated by four Inquires.

‘We have in process the creation of a democratically-elected government in Iraq and that speaks for itself.’

[In double - speak it means we decided to go to war what ever the opposition and though we have almost destroyed the many centuries accumulation of our TRUE Democracy in Britain or more specifically ENGLAND we have told the Iraqi people that they must now take our so-called gift of democracy and of course sort out all the extra troubles the Invasion of Iraq has brought on the Iraqi people. SO THERE!

We now learn that the three regions of Iraq are now under the religious/national leaders and that the American and British forces are literally bystanders which is what many predicted before the war in Iraq commenced.

INTERVIEW

Monday, January 16, 2006

by

Clare Campbell

Five month’s ago, explosives expert Captain Peter Norton 43, lost an arm and a leg after a bomb blast in Iraq. Warning his comrades not to come to his assistance, he risked death rather than endanger lives.

Here his wife Sue, a 34-year-old archaeologist and former MoD civil servant, now mother to Tom, two, and, 11 month - old Toby, tells FEMAIL of her determination to make a new family life with her husband at their specially adapted home near Gloucester.

DING -DONG, ding-dong, I heard my two - year-old son Tom’s voice calling out as I looked at the clock. It was 3am on Monday, July 25, 2005. I remember thinking Tom must be having a disturbed night again. It was hardly surprising - he was missing his father, my husband Pete, and a bomb disposal expert for more than three months.

Toby, our younger son, lay sleeping in a cot beside me. He had recently started crawling. I hated the thought that Pete had not been there to see his son do that. Tom wasn’t the only one missing Pete. I loved and missed him very much, and was finding it hard to look after the children on my own for so long. I was grateful that my parents were staying to help out.

Now I heard Tom’s voice again, this time more insistent. I realised with a shock he wasn’t dreaming but mimicking the sound of the front door bell.

I jumped out of bed, my heart pounding. Drawing back the blind I saw a man and a women, both in military uniform, on the doorstep. A visit at this time of the night could mean only one thing. Something must have happened to Pete. My blood ran cold.

Grabbing Toby up in my arms, I ran into Tom’s room. My parents were already on the landing in their dressing gowns. Looking very nervous. None of us needed to say anything. We all knew what this might mean.

Handing Toby to my mother, I ran downstairs. All I could keep thinking was: I’ve lost him. Oh God, I’ve lost my husband.’ The thought was unbearable. Pete and I had been married for ten years. We met when I was a civil servant with the MoD. Pete had just been promoted to warrant officer.

We had a very happy marriage and Pete was thrilled when we had our two beautiful little boys. We hoped to settle down to a peaceful family life in Cambridge together, but Pete was by now back with his regiment, the 11th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment of the Royal Logistic Corps.

The country was at war with Iraq and I knew it was only a matter of time before Pete might be called on to go.

I tried not to think about it and time passed .We celebrated Toby’s birth and still Pete had not been sent. But then in March 2005 he told me he was going on a four- month term of duty.

They needed officers like him; he said, since explosives, in particular secondary incendiary devices - where a second bomb goes off while the first one is being investigated - were now one of the worst threats to both soldiers and civilians alike.

We’d heard on the television about explosives that had killed Iraqi men women and children every day, and although I was terrified about losing my husband, I knew he had an important job to do in Iraq.

After he had gone I cherished every letter or phone call I received. I desperately hung on to the knowledge that he was still OK. Every night I watched the evening news with dread in my heart. ‘Please keep him safe,’ I prayed.

Now I opened the door to two military officers, in the early hours of the morning, I thought: ‘Are they going to tell me Pete is dead?’

They both insisted I sat down before they said anything. The man was holding a piece of white paper, a fax he said they had received three hours earlier.

‘I’m sorry to tell you this but ,Pete has been seriously injured, wounded’ he said.

Strangely, I felt my heart flood with relief at his words. ‘Injured’ to me could be coped with, got over. I felt we could recover from anything as a family. Just so long as Pete was still alive.

‘What’s happened? I whispered, my mouth dry from anxiety.

‘Pete was investigating a bomb site three miles south of Baghdad. Two American soldiers had been killed there and Pete was looking for forensic evidence.’

The man’s voice went on . I felt as if I was listening to some horrific news on TV. Only this was about my husband. ‘He was part of a team of coalition troops, including Americans and Australians, when he stepped on a secondary device, two Iraqi shells wired to a pressure sensor.’

Now I could barely go on listening to what was being said. But through the fog of terror, I managed to concentrate.

Unbelievably it seemed that, in spite of his horrific injuries, Pete had remained conscious throughout, shouting to his comrades to stay away when they ran to help him in case there should be a further explosion.

In the midst of my distress I felt very proud when I heard this. It was so typical of him to think of others’ lives before his own. As it turned out, another device was finally found six hours later which would have cost more lives had it gone off.

THE MAN read out the list, apparently endless, of Pete’s injuries. ‘loss of left leg,’ I heard, ‘left arm, severe injury to the buttock and lower right leg…’

I must have gone pale with shock as my mother and the women officer sitting next to me both reached out to comfort me. As the list went on, I remember thinking:

‘How is it possible for Pete to have so many injuries and still have survived?’

But I realised I had to be practical. More than anything I wanted to see Pete, hold him and tell him how much I loved him. ‘Where is he now? I asked.

‘In hospital in Germany. We can arrange for you to go out there.’

My mind was racing. I was still breast feeding Toby up to four times a day. Tom would be able to stay here with my parents. But Toby would have to come on the plane with me.

Both the officers were wonderfully supportive, reassuring me that they would organise a passport for Toby who, even at seven months old, would need one in order to be

allowed to leave and re-enter the country.

The officers told me I would be contacted the following day about the arrangements. In the meantime, I would also be informed about Pete’s condition.

After they left, I lay awake for the rest of the night worrying myself sick about Pete. I decided to look no further ahead than the next few days. It was all I I could cope with for now.

The next morning, I was still in a trance-like state from shock as I went into my parents’ bedroom and asked was it a dream, Mum?’ My Mother looked sadly back at me, shook her head and said:

‘No darling It wasn’t.’

I felt exhausted and shaky but I couldn’t allow myself to break down. I knew I had to be strong for the children.

Over the next 48 hours I received letters from several of Pete’s colleagues all paying tribute to his heroic selflessness. I was very moved by these and re-reading them helped me to stay positive. All I could keep thinking was:

‘At least he is alive.’

Two days later, major Colin Morris arrived to collect Toby and me, taking us first to Newport to collect Toby’s passport and then to London to meet my friend Sarah who had kindly offered to come with us. From there, Major Morris drove us to Heathrow.

At Frankfurt we were met by a military car and taken straight to the hospital to see Pete. I was warned by hospital staff not to cry as this might distress Pete and possibly delay his recovery. I remember thinking:

Oh please just let me see my husband.’

Toby was not allowed in with me as Pete was suffering with an intestinal infection picked up in Iraq. So suddenly I found myself in a surgical gown and gloves being led into intensive care to see the husband I had not laid eyes on for three-and-half-long-months.

Suddenly, I was looking at Pete, his next in a brace, covered in bandages, an intravenous drip connected to his nose and mouth. I should have been shocked, but nothing mattered except the overwhelming love that flooded through me.

I was happy to see him alive that my eyes filled with tears of joy rather than sadness. I longed to hug him properly, but knowing that would hurt him, I was forced to limit myself to running my hands through his hair.

Even though Pete could not answer me, the smile and love that shone in his eyes was enough. He knew who I was and was clearly as happy to see me as I was to be reunited with him.

I was also relieved to see that, although Pete’s injuries were undoubtly very severe, he still had his left arm to the elbow, meaning fewer complications in getting used to an artificial limb and regaining muscle strength. His left leg had had to be amputated above the knee.

Although the doctor later explained to me that there was no reason why Pete should not eventually walk again, it was obviously going to take a long -time -at least a year- and much willpower.

Pete was clearly in a lot of pain and , over the ensuing months, was sustained with heavy doses of painkillers. I reminded myself that Pete could have no better incentive to recover than wanting to be an active father again to the boys he loved so much.

I stayed in Germany for the next two nights, spending as much time with Pete as I could before flying back to London. On the last day the hospital staff allowed me to take Toby in, too. It was a wonderful moment. Pete’s face simply lit up with joy at the sight of the baby son he had not seen for so long.

Pete was flown to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham the following day. At the same time, Toby and I got on a return flight to London, where we were met by Major Morris and taken home to Tom and my parents.

Although I was beginning to realise the problems that lay ahead, I felt I could cope with anything now that I had seen Pete again. Major Morris had already assured me the Army would do all it could to support us.

Before the injury, Pete had been about to start an MSc course in Explosive Ordnance Engineering at Shrivenham College in Wiltshire. Now we would just have to wait and see how his recovery progressed. In the meantime, we needed new accommodation, a house with wheelchair access and suitable facilities for Pete’s eventual discharge from hospital.

Friends, including two US soldiers who lost their legs in an explosion in Iraq the previous year, warned me the prosthetics Pete might need were very expensive and that costs could run into thousands of pounds.

The alternative would be those offered by the NHS. I made up my mind that Pete would have whatever it took to get him mobile again. I remembered his love of rugby, and how he used to enjoy horseplay with the boys, and thought how tragic it was the boys that such a physical man should be injured in this way.

Still, I felt sure that we could overcome this setback if we worked together as a family.

Later that weekend I visited Pete in Birmingham and he was able to talk to me for the first time. But then suddenly disorientated by all that had happened to him over the last few weeks, Pete thought we were still in Iraq.

He began shouting at the nurses to get me out of danger and became so angry that they asked me to leave. I was really upset and when I tried visiting him again the following morning again he flew into a panic.

Finally a few days later, I asked a friend of his, a former colleague who had been with Pete in Iraq, to reassure him that we were all safe. To my great relief, the next time I saw my husband he was once again aware of his surroundings and realised he was at last back in the UK.

OVER THE next few months I visited Pete two or three times a week, always taking the children with me. Being with the boys never failed to lift Pete’s spirits, as it did mine to see my husband with both his sons again looking happy.

But, of course, the boys were affected by their father’s injuries. Tom kept saying:

‘Daddy hurt arm…hurt leg

In time, PETE was able to talk about the bomb going off. Thankfully, he has no memory of the physical pain of losing his limbs. But to this day he has nightmares.

There have inevitably been low moments for both of us, times when we would wonder how Pete would be able to cope with his return to normal life as a husband and father. Yet he’s remained so strong throughout his ordeal and even jokes:

‘My job cost me an arm and a leg’

Pete is not political. Though he thinks we needed to get rid of Saddam. I think the Government is covering up the real cost of the conflict by releasing only the numbers of dead, rather than the overall number of casualties.

It is misleading for the public not to know about men like Pete, who have sacrificed so much and whose lives and families have been shattered by tragedy.

We have to live with the consequences, but the first thing is too get Pete as well and as strong as possible. Though the consultant kept telling us it should not be long before Pete could start physiotherapy, the wound to his right leg and buttock is so severe that he suffers from repeated pressure sores, delaying healing longer than had been hoped.

In the meantime friends and family have rallied round, holding a sponsored walk in heavy bomb disposal uniforms to help raise money. The Wales Rugby Team have also offered to help, donating two signed rugby balls to be put up as a raffle prize.

In mid-December, the boys and I moved to a large detached house specially adapted with lift and wheelchair accesss that the Army provided for us near Gloucester.

We still don’t know when Pete will be allowed home for good, but we hope it will be soon. Theoretically, he should be able to walk again. His arm and left leg are healing well and we are looking forward to trying out the prosthetics.

Soon, I hope we can start looking forward to the future again. It may not be the future we had planned for ourselves, but It will be a happy one. As long as I have Pete and the boys, I am convinced of that.

NO ONE’S TO BLAME! –PART 2

By

Max Hastings

Daily Mail, Thursday, July 15, 2004

Lord Butler seems to take the view that although all this now appears to have been rubbish, since those who produced the rubbish believed it, they cannot be held blameworthy.

‘C’- Dearlove-and ’S’ (or whatever Scarlett called himself), far from being staunchly independent masters of the secret world, are exposed by their actions as ambitious civil servants, eager to ingratiate themselves with the government of the day, whatever the cost to the National Institution for which they are responsible.

Butler, amazingly, concludes that Scarlett should not be obliged to forfeit his job as the new director of SIS. He is happy to let him off with a caution, seeing as he has a long record of previous good conduct.

Thus the man responsible for one of the gravest errors of intelligence assessment in recent history becomes responsible for the body guilty of the original failure of intelligence collection.  Austin Powers seems more credible.

I thought [Max Hastings] the war in Iraq was a huge mistake, because George Bush was overwhelmingly likely to bungle the politics.

But I was foolish enough to believe the British government’s claims about WMD, because I could not conceive that SIS would allow its name to be used in evidence without ironclad evidence. In other words I was a mug.

We cannot be surprised that Tony Blair and Alastair Campbell contrived a spurious excuse for war: this is what such people do-like dogs’ instinctive relationships with lamp-posts.

But by suborning Britain’s most senior intelligence officers to help them do it, they have brought shame on the SIS.

Butler concludes that everybody responsible for this sordid fiasco should keep their jobs, because the failure was systemic, not individual.

Yet the system is made up of individuals. They are called:

Scarlett

Dearlove

Campbell

Blair

Again and again , Butler uses words that should add up to a devastating judgment upon Tony Blair’s manner of governing Britain:  his committee is ‘concerned that the informality and circumscribed character of the Government’s procedures, which we saw in the context of policy making towards Iraq, risked reducing the scope for informed collective judgment.

In plain English, Butler says that this country is now run by an unelected group appointed by Tony Blair, which bypasses the machinery of Cabinet decision making when ever it suits him, as it did in preparing the ground for war in Iraq.

Mr Holmes, they were the footsteps of a gigantic hound’, observed the doctor who brought Sherlock Holmes first tidings of the murderous beast of the Baskervilles.

Lord Butler has found everywhere in his investigations the footprints of a gigantic failure of British governance. Yet, after exhaustive investigation he brings in a verdict of misadventure, and sends everybody home for a nice hot drink.  The rest of us prefer to draw our conclusions on the footsteps.

Butler’s report portrays a government in which the boundaries between the Elected Executive and our National Institutions have become blurred-a process that began while he himself [RobinButler] was still Cabinet Secretary.

It is not surprising that Tony Blair, whose shamelessness in this matter seems to know no bounds, perceives no distinction between his own political interests and those of the country.

It is vital that others should do so [who have their country’s best interest at heart] However, they should defend their independence as Dearlove and Scarlett so lamentably did not.

This year, Tony Blair has seemed to bear a charmed life. He has survived Hutton, poor European election results, perilous rumblings with his Gordon Brown and growing doubts whether he remains an electoral asset to the Labour party.

Last night, he probably went to bed fancying that he has skilfully parried yet another dangerous threat to his premiership in the Butler report.  He should not be too sure.

We are all familiar with the tale of the tribesman at whose head a Gurkha slashed with his kukri. ‘Ha! You missed!’ said the tribesman. ‘Twist your head,’ said the Gurkha.

Tony Blair’s premiership is bleeding in many places now, and it must be doubtful whether he can ever again staunch the flow.

The truth is that the Prime minister has been left threadbare by the implications of Butler’s report.  Here is a man who was still telling the House of Commons as late as July 2003 :

‘I have absolutely no doubt at all that we will find evidence of weapons of mass destruction programmes.’

His personal credibility is in tatters.

Michael Howard, as leader of the Opposition, touched the heart of the miserable story when he asked Mr Blair yesterday:

I hope we will not face in this country another war in the foreseeable future, but if we did and you identified the threat would the country believe you?’

We know the answer to that question. It is deeply disturbing one for the British people and for the Security of the Nation.

Lord Butler reveals massaged case for war

Analysis

compiled by

Mathew Hickley

Daily Mail, Thursday, July 15,2004

In his report, Lord Butler reveals how previously unseen intelligence was massaged to make the case for war. Here we analyse five key areas:

(1) Reliability of Intelligence

Intelligence briefings:

‘Intelligence on Iraq’s WMDs and ballistic missile programmes is patchy.

A complete picture of the various programmes is difficult.’ Joint Intelligence Committee, Mar 15

‘We have little intelligence on Iraq’s chemical and biological warfare (CBW) doctrine’ Joint Intelligence Committee, Aug 21

‘Intelligence remains limited. Much of this paper is based on judgment and assessment.’ Joint Intelligence Committee.’ Sept 9, 2002

September Dossier says:

‘Significant additional information is available to the Government from secret intelligence sources.  This cannot tell us about everything. However it provides a fuller picture of Iraq plans and capabilities.’

‘Intelligence sources need to be protected and this limits the detail that can be made available.’

Blair said:

What I believe the assessed intelligence has established beyond doubt is that Saddam has continued to produce chemical and biological weapons.’

(Foreward to dossier.)

‘The intelligence picture is one accumulated over the last four years. It is extensive, detailed and authoritive.’ (To the House of Commons,Sept 24,2002.)

Daily Mail Analysis –on the above

The uncertainties and guesswork are played down massively. Tony Blair even uses the phrase ‘beyond doubt’.  Instead of admitting the limitations of intelligence, the dossier hints strongly that even more information is being held back.

*          *

(2)         Long-Range Missiles

Intelligence briefing

Intelligence indicates that Saddam has identified Bahrain, Jordan, Quatar, Israel, Kuwait as targets.  Turkey could also be at risk.’-Sept9,2002

September Dossier says:

‘Iraq possesses extended-range versions of the SCUD ballistic missile which is capable of reaching Cyprus, eastern turkey, Tehran and Israel.’

Blair said:

‘Hundreds of people are employed in that programme, facilities are being built and equipment procured- usually clandestinely.’ (Speech to the Commons, Sept 24,2002)

Daily Mail Analysis:

The JIC made no mention of Cyprus- home to thousands of UK troops- but dossier adds it to countries the missiles are ‘capable of reaching’, suggesting UK forces are at risk.

(3)         WMD Warheads for Missiles.

Intelligence Briefings

‘One intelligence report suggests that Iraq has ‘lost’ the capability to develop warheads capable of disseminating chemical and biological agent. Sept9,2004.

September Dossier says:

‘It is unclear if chemical and biological warheads have been developed for these systems, but given Iraq experience on other missile systems, we judge that Iraq has the technical expertise for doing so.’

Blair said:

‘Saddam has continued to produce chemical and biological weapons and has been able to extend the range of his ballistic missile programme.’(Foreword to dossier)

Daily Mail Analysis:

Last-minute intelligence doubts over WMD warheads ignored. Most recent JIC report does not say Saddam could deliver WMD using ballistic missiles, but dossier readers are left with impression he could.

(4)         45 Minutes Claim

Intelligence Briefings

‘Intelligence indicates that chemical and biological munitions could be with military units and ready for firing within 20-45 minutes.’

September Dossier:

‘Iraq has military plans for the use of chemical and biological weapons including against its own Shia population. Some of these weapons are deployable within 45 minutes of an order to use them.’

Blair said:

‘Saddam has existing and active military plans for the use of chemical and biological weapons which could be activated within 45 minutes, including against his own Shia population.’ (To the Commons, Sept 24, 2002.)

Daily Mail Analysis:

The language becomes more dramatic and emotive, but the dossier fails to make clear the 45 minutes claim refers to short-range battlefield weapons, not ballistic missiles.

(5)         Saddam’s Likely Use Of WMD?

Intelligence Briefings

‘We have little intelligence on Iraq’s CBW doctrine . (Aug.2002)

September Dossier:

‘It(the intelligence) shows that he does not regard them only as weapons of last resort.’

Blair said:

‘I am in no doubt the threat is serious and current.’

‘Saddam is continuing to develop WMD, and the ability to inflict damage upon the region and the stability of the world.

(Foreword to dossier.)

Daily Mail Analysis:

Intelligence briefing voices doubts, but says pre-emptive strike by Saddam is unlikely.

Tony Blair has ‘no doubts’ and speaks of a current threat to the region and the World.

NO ONE’S TO BLAME! –PART 1

By

Max Hastings

Daily Mail, Thursday, July 15, 2004

It is not Lord Butler’s conclusions that are damning – indeed, they are pretty wet. Rather, it is the former Cabinet Secretary’s portrait of the governance of Britain as it is conducted by Tony Blair.

He tells a tale of rule by elected ministers displaced by cabals of appointed advisers; of national institutions suborned for partisan purposes; of a deceit of the British people that sounds no prettier because it was done in ‘good faith’.

If Butler had refrained from delivering a killer blow to the Prime Minister, he has provided us all with evidence that is likely to cripple Tony Blair’s reputation in perpetuity.

The report’s appendices detailing the intelligence available to the Government about Iraq and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) from March 2002 onwards make plain to anyone who can read that the BBC’s Andrew Gillingham was absolutely right: Downing Street ‘sexed up’ the threat to the British people from Saddam Hussein in a fashion no responsible prime minister could have attempted.

Lord Butler has done better than his predecessor in the Iraq inquires business, Lord Hutton, in one important respect\: his report provides devastating evidence of a failure of governance in which Britain’s Intelligence Chiefs were foolish enough to collude.

The puzzling part is his conclusion. His bottom line on this sordid, wholly disreputable saga is that everybody acted in good faith.

Lord Butler, one of nature’s Chief Scouts, recommends that no individual should be pilloried, be made a scapegoat or suffer a witch hunt for a silly mistake that anybody might have made: sending Britain to war on a prospective that has proved utterly fallacious.

This country went into Iraq with horse, foot and guns to defeat a threat to British public safety that has since proved to be tosh. Yet Butler seems content officially to clear the manufactures and vendors of this tosh to keep their jobs until they reach index-linked pensions time.

It stinks, and only in Britain could it have happened. In the United States, a Senate Committee covering much the same ground delivered withering judgment in a report last week.  The director of the CIA has already resigned, in atonement for his organisation’s huge Iraq intelligence bungle.

In Britain, however, not only does the man responsible for assessing the Iraq intelligence get promoted- and Butler thinks that is all right –but also if Tony sticks to his usual form, John Scarlett will become a Companion of Honour in the next Honour’s List.

For many years now, spies have been presented to the British public either as comic caricatures in the movie James Bond manner, or as seedy turncoats of the kind

Peddled by John Le Carre.  Most readers and cinema- goers, however, are sensible enough to recognise that few real spies resemble their fictional counterparts.

In modern times, the British Secret Service, SIS has been quietly effective and even admirable.  It has been much more highly-regarded than the American CIA, with its obsession with technology and dire shortage of good human agents, highlighted by last week’s U.S. Senate Report.

All that, however, was before Sir Richard Dearlove, director of SIS, and John Scarlett-then Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee-met Tony Blair and Alistair Campbell, a conjunction as disastrous for the integrity and good name of the SIS as that of the nice girl from Surbiton who fell in with white slavers.

Intelligence chiefs are supposed to serve national interest. Yet in preparing the Government’s notorious Iraq dossier, they allowed themselves to be enlisted for a wholly different, and quite inappropriate purpose: getting the Prime Minister of the day out of a political hole.

At the time, Blair was privately committed to take Britain to war alongside George Bush. Yet he needed a much better public excuse to reconcile the British people to this purpose than announcing it as his Good Deed for 2003.

[What a wonderful nature has our modern crusader Tony?]

Intelligence is a craft, not a science. Properly used, like diplomatic briefing and media reports, it is important tool for policy-makers.

What it never has been and never should be is holy writ, to be deployed by government as authority for such momentous decisions as declaring war.

There is no doubt that the SIS sincerely believed Saddam Hussein possessed WDM’s.  Yet it was madness for Sir Richard Dearlove and John Scarlett to allow this supposition – and it was no more-to be hijacked and used in evidence for Tony Blair publicly to justify war to the British people.

Both Dearlove and Scarlett had a chance to distance themselves from their actions when they gave evidence to Lord Hutton’s Inquiry.

They could, and should, have acknowledged that the notorious Downing Street dossier on WDM created by Alistair Campbell at Tony Blair’s behest, cast aside all the caveats and qualifications about its reliability and scope, which the raw intelligence material from SIS sensibly included.

Yet Dearlove and Scarlett chose not to do this. They made the decision to identify themselves body and soul with the Government’s statements. They stuck with their support for the Government’s WDM dossier, including the claim that Iraq could deploy their horrid weapons within 45 minutes, which Lord Butler acknowledges to have been fanciful.

The Intelligence Chiefs today have a choice: to be condemned as incompetents, or as Downing Street stooges. They have shown themselves conclusively to be one or the other.

Everyone agrees that Scarlett was an admirable Cold War intelligence officer.  But whatever his credentials by submitting to become Alastair Campbell’s avowed ‘mate’, he has destroyed his own credibility.

What on earth did the Chairman of the JIC think he was doing, sharing as much as a mug of tea with the Prime Minister’s chief of propaganda, never mind working with him to draft a wildly speculative political document for public consumption.

And what did Lord Butler think he was doing, producing a report which contains no mention of Campbell? We are left to suppose that he thinks Othello would have been less distressing play without Iago in it.

Dearlove and Scarlett allowed themselves and their service to be prostituted for the explicitly political purpose: convincing the British people that Saddam Hussein presented an immediate threat to their safety.

It was on their authority that Tony Blair told the House of Commons in February 2003:

The intelligence is clear…the biological agents we believe Iraq can produce include anthrax, botulinum, aflatoxin and ricin.  All eventually result in excruciatingly painful death.’

How troops wounded in Iraq conflict don’t count with the MoD.

MINISTERS were last night accused of a cover-up over the number of British servicemen and women wounded in Iraq.

While 98 UK personnel have lost their lives since the invasion began almost three years ago, the Ministry of Defence [Ministry of Deception] claims it has no clear figures available on how many are injured.

[Well! This for a start shows how much interest they have in the numbers of the killed and wounded in Iraq. We had the same reply about the missing flack jackets and whatever else. So they haven’t learnt much since then and they don’t have Geoffrey Hoon to blame.]

In the U.S., the Pentagon publishes detailed weekly breakdowns of casualties, showing that to date 7,608 of its personnel have been seriously wounded, 8,812 less seriously hurt and 456 have lost limbs - in addition to 2,211 killed.

The MoD [The Ministry of Deception] said last night its lack of similar data was partly due to ‘medical confidentiality’ [usual Gobbledegook and Double-talk] a claim dismissed as nonsensical by critics who claim the public has a right to know the human cost of war.

[Maybe Tony’s buddy across the Atlantic good old George will help his chum and would be pleased to help set-up a proper system for the MoD after all he was the one who started the war. And we shall only be asking for something, which is indeed above board, and NOT for intelligence information-thankfully!]

Relatives of injured UK soldiers claim they are the ‘forgotten victims’ of the war, and are urging the MoD to follow America’s

lead in being more open.

They suspect the Government is unwilling to publish the figures in case they increase anti-war sentiment

The only figures available from the MoD make no distinction between illness and injuries suffered by troops. At the start of this month 4,017 men and women had been medically evacuated from Iraq for treatment in British or UK military hospitals in Germany - more than a thousand of then in the past year.

Between March 24, 2003 and July 2005, a total of 5,644 men and women were admitted to the Army’s field hospital outside Basra, but again that includes both illnesses and injuries.

In the same period the MoD claims 189 troops were wounded in action, but that excludes the first few days of the invasion, does not count UK forces operating outside southern Iraq and the definition of ‘action’ is unclear.

Roadside bombs, shootings and riots are known to have caused significant numbers of injuries, but it remains unclear how many. Sue Norton, whose husband Peter is an Army Captain and Explosives Expert who lost an arm and a leg in a bomb blast in Iraq, said she had no way of knowing how many other families faced similar situations.

Captain Norton, 43, is still in hospital in Birmingham five months after he was injured.

His wife, who told her story in yesterday’s Daily Mail, said:

The Government here should be more open. As a former civil servant I don’t believe they can’t gather the information.

‘How many others are there like Pete? Our serviceman and women don’t question their orders, they can’t go on strike, and it doesn’t make news when they get hurt. They are the forgotten ones. The Government probably thinks there are enough people already who are anti-war, but that’s not the point. This is the hidden human cost and we should have more information about what is done in our name.

‘If they can give the figures for fatalities, they should also say how many are wounded and injured.

In America the U.S. Congress has insisted on a culture of openness from the Pentagon, whereas Britain’s Parliament has left the MoD to set its own policy on publishing figures.

Tory defence spokesman Dr Liam Fox, said:

‘The MoD cannot hide behind patient confidentiality as a breakdown of figures would not reveal personal details.

‘If the American public has a right to know the extent of injuries suffered in Iraq, then so does the British public.’

Liberal Democratic defence spokesman Michael Moore said:

‘There is a legitimate public interest in understanding the nature of the injuries suffered by our brave servicemen and women in Iraq.’

The MoD [Ministry of Deception] said officials were now looking into ways to release more information on injuries and casualties. A spokesman said:

It isn’t a question of secrecy. We have simply never pulled the figures together in this way before. We recognise this is an issue.’

*          *

DAILY MAIL, THURSDAY, JULY 15,2004

‘Sir Humphrey would have been proud of you, Lord B.’

His language and elliptical phrases were straight from the script of Yes, Minister.  Here, with apologies to Sir Humphrey’s everywhere, the Mail gives its own interpretation of what Lord Butler really meant.

‘Mr Blair justified the war on the basis of third hand gossip from disaffected and untrustworthy Iraq troublemakers.’

Responsibility for the dossier’ put a strain on the Joint Intelligence Committee in ‘seeking to maintain their normal standards of neutral and objective assessment.’

WHAT HE MEANT:

‘The Committee had a gun held to their heads to come up with evidence, no matter how spurious, to justify war.’

*          *

ON THE 45-MINUTE THREAT

WHAT HE SAID:

There were ‘suspicions’ this was only included because of its ‘eye-catching character.’

WE WILL HAVE TO SEE HOW A PRIME MINISTER WITH SUCH A COLOSSAL PERSONAL FORTUNE CAN UNDERSTAND THE FEARS AND WANTS OF THE COMMON PEOPLE?
